Eagles injury report: Two starters ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. Jaguars

PHILADELPHIA —  Eagles cornerback Darius Slay and tight end Dallas Goedert both have been ruled out of Sunday’s against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith missed Friday’s practice for personal reasons.
Slay, who suffered a groin injury in the Eagles’ 37-17 win over the Bengals last Sunday, is expected to be replaced by backup cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. Last week, Rodgers batted a pass into safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s hands for an interception. He has only played 19% of the defensive snaps this season.
Goedert, who has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, has shown no signs of returning soon. The Eagles’ offense has scored 65 points in its last two games, so Goedert might not need to rush back. Backup tight end Grant Calcaterra caught three receptions for 58 yards against the Bengals’ defense.
Behind Goedert, Calcaterra and Jack Stoll are the only two tight ends on the Eagles’ 53-man roster. If the Eagles want to improve their tight end depth before Week 9, they could elevate E.J. Jenkins off the practice squad. Over the last two weeks, the Eagles have only used two tight ends.
Offensive guards Mekhi Becton (concussion) and Landon Dickerson (knee) were full participants. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter practiced for the second consecutive day after missing Wednesday’s practice with a shoulder injury.
